about
At long last, here's my first fully self-produced and released single, Creatures Inside. The song came so fast at first, from a chord loop I heard in a dream (that's the verse progression) to lyrics from dreams, it was all basically roughed out within a week or two.
Then... I produced and produced and ended up adding and removing so many things that I threw at this, until I arrived at what I felt was an interesting combination of orchestral instruments, samples, and of course, guitar and vocals that propelled the song forward.
lyrics
Lyrics:
Falling up into dark shining bright, over and under, left becomes right
Reeling and steadfast at the same time,
feeling the dust and stars combine
Spiraling into geometric signs, my body blurs as the symbols align
Passing through walls, suspended in the sky,
my mind at ease with the creatures inside
Waking up, landing in bed, only to find I'm still in my head
Making sense of memories, leaves me chasing memories
Whispering words that deafen my eyes,
the keeper gives but my hands are tied
I dissolve and multiply into question marks with the answers inside
Waking up, landing in bed, only to find I'm still in my head
Making sense of memories, leaves me chasing memories
Whispering words that deafen my eyes,
over and under, left becomes right
The keeper gives but my hands are tied,
reeling and steadfast at the same time
Falling up into dark shining bright, my body blurs as the symbols align
Spiraling into geometric signs, feeling the dust and stars combine
My mind at ease with the creatures inside

I've loved this band for years, and this "swan song?" of a record is a capstone. Their genre varies from folktronica tropicalia to straight up indie rock with some Pro Tools turntablism thrown in. Caleb Bailey
Gavin is one of those songwriters that changes his genre/concept on almost every album. If you like this (or if you don't) give another one a try. This one's a zombie scare relationship thing. Dope. Caleb Bailey
Holy Palms did a great thing with drones and snake charming music. Dirty and satisfying, with some great beats and strange ... whooping sounds? Caleb Bailey
Released in 2001, “The Convincer” is a gentle gem in the Nick Lowe catalog; an anniversary edition provides opportunity for rediscovery. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 20, 2021
Avi Buffalo had a hand in producing this cassette of Lowpines' serene, self-described "Lo-fi-Anglo-Americana pop songs." Bandcamp New & Notable Feb 28, 2016
